Beat The Summer Heat At Work With These 7 Hacks

There’s nothing worse than showing up to work drenched in sweat from your morning commute, to find that the air conditioning has broken and the sun is on full blast outside. This year, the UK has seen record-breaking heat, with certain areas reaching up to 38 degrees. And though many of us can cope with a little bit of heat, it’s important to take care of yourself in this weather to avoid heatstroke, and to maximise comfort and productivity at work. Here are our top seven hacks for beating the summer heat at work!

 

Wear Loose, Light Clothing

A lot of workplaces this time of year will be more flexible when it comes to work attire, to make sure that employees can stay cool throughout the day. Wear loose, light clothing, and if possible, cover your skin to protect it from the sun. The best, most breathable fabrics include cotton, rayon, silk, jersey and linen. Avoid synthetic fabrics because they cause friction and lock in heat.

 

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

It seems like a no-brainer to drink more water in the heat, but it’s worth mentioning because proper hydration can deter heat stroke or fainting, and will help to cool you down. If you have a freezer at work, make sure it’s packed with ice to make cold drinks extra cold. You lose a lot of liquid through sweating so it’s important to replace these fluids. Cut Down On The Caffeine

Embrace Icy Treats

From ice poles and ice creams to fro-yo, grab an icy treat during the day to expel the heat. You could also bring frozen fruit to make a smoothie. But whatever you do, avoid products high in sugar to reap the most benefits.
