As Glasgow natives we know that our dear green city has heaps of qualities that make it a great space for business, culture and enterprise. From being voted as having the best work-life balance and quality of life factor in the UK, to its thriving arts and cultural offerings, Glasgow appears to be at the top of its game. And the world knows it – since Time Out has just ranked Glasgow in its list of top ten best cities in the world.
Surveying more than 32,000 people in cities across the world, Time Out asked participants questions about varying aspects of their city’s offerings including: food and drink, nightlife, culture, neighbourhoods, community, beauty, affordability and convenience.
Time Out then gleaned expert insight and opinions from travel writers and reviews to finalise their list.
New York came first, followed by Melbourne, Chicago, London and Los Angeles.
Some people might be surprised to note that Glasgow came eighth, while the capital Edinburgh came 30th.
Time Out said: “It’s comfortably the smallest and rainiest city in the top ten, so Glasgow’s lofty ranking may surprise some. But not residents, who love Scotland’s biggest metropolis for its dynamic music, clubbing and food scenes and its daft wit and gregariousness.
“It’s number one in the world for both friendliness and affordability, and 55 percent say it’s changed for the better – higher than almost anywhere else. If only Glasgow’s weather looked as bright as its future.”
